WalletWhiz is your pocket partner for managing your budget. We designed WalletWhiz to be as easy and user-friendly as possible but we've also
incorporated some fresh features to optimize your budget-managing experience.
"?" - This button will take you to the Options view, which contains some useful functions to protect your data, and to help you learn more
about WalletWhiz.
"Calendar / Categories" - This button switches between Calendar & Categories, the two main views of WalletWhiz.
"+" - This button allows you to add transactions to WalletWhiz, as well as add Periods in Calendar view and add Categories in Categories view.
"< / >" - These buttons change months in Calendar view, and change cycles in Categories view.
"June 2009" - This button (also known as the "Period" button) shows the current Cycle/s in Calendar view, and switches Cycles between
Monthly and Weekly in Categories view.
"Today" - This button moves the selection to the current date in Calendar view, and displays the Period for the current day in Categories view.
"Totals / Balance" - This button (also known as the "Amounts" button) functions differently in the three views it is available in:
1. In Calendar view, it toggles between the display of the Actual and Budget totals, and the balance for the Cycle/s that the selected date is part of.
2. In the main Categories view, it toggles between the Actual and Budget totals, and the balance for the indicated Cycle in the "Period" button.
3. In the Transactions view, it toggles the display to reflect the Spent amount, the Earned amount, and the Balance amount for the Category
in the chosen Cycle.
With WalletWhiz, it's quite easy to get started in using the application.
The following steps allow you to get set-up and enter expenses right away:
1) Select a date in the Calendar view.
2) Tap "+" in Calendar view to create a Monthly or Weekly Period.
3) Tap "+" in Calendar view to add a Transaction.
4) Tap Category in the Spend/Earn Money view to add a Category.
5) You're done.
Q. Do I have to use Categories?
A. Technically, yes. However, you may set-up just one Category
(say, "Default") and assign all your expenses to that Category.
Q. Do I have to use the Calendar?
A. Technically, yes. However, you may set-up just one Monthly Period for the
year (or 12 Cycles), and enter all your transactions in the
Categories view
until the Period ends the following year.
Q. Do I have to set-up a Passcode?
A. No, but we encourage you to set up a passcode to protect your WalletWhiz data.
Q. Why does the Exported file have a vcf extension?
A. Depending on the software that you use to read your e-mail, the Exported Data
file might end with "vcf". It's the default extension for vCards,
a widely-used file format standard for digital business card exchange. Just remove this extension
or change it to "csv", and you can open it
in your spreadsheet or desktop budget
application of choice.
Q. I'm having problems Exporting my Data. What do I do?
A. It's quite possible that the e-mail address you entered may be invalid. Also,
it's possible that our SMTP servers are overloaded sending out
data to your e-mail's
service provider. If this is not the case, please see the next question.
Q. It's a bug! What do I do?
A. Sorry about that. We try our best to release our software problem-free, but some
bugs are just too nasty to be put down easily. In that case,
you may reach us
through walletwhiz@numlock.com.ph or @walletwhiz on http://www.twitter.com/.
Q. WalletWhiz ROCKS!!! How do I let you know?
A. Thanks for feeling that way. If possible, please leave feedback in iTunes
to help others experience the pure "awesomeness" of WalletWhiz.
Also, you can reach us
through walletwhiz@numlock.com.ph or on http://www.twitter.com/walletwhiz to tell us
how much you love WalletWhiz.
The Calendar view of WalletWhiz takes its inspiration from the iPhone's built-in
Calendar application. So, if you've used the Calendar application before, you'll feel
right at home in WalletWhiz's Calendar view. If not, please read "Welcome!" to see
the specific functions of each button on the screen. After you're done, you can come
back here to see what else to expect.
To move around the Calendar view, tap on any of the date buttons on the calendar itself.
This sets the current date of WalletWhiz to the selected date. At the same time,
the transactions for that date will be displayed in the table below the calendar.
To view the details for a transaction, tap on the row for that transaction.
To return to today's date, tap on the "Today" button. By default, the values displayed
on the "Amounts" button are the Totals for the Actual transactions entered for the Cycle
and the Budget for the that Cycle. Tap on the button displaying the Amounts, and the
Balance for that Cycle will be displayed. Tap again to display the Amounts. If more
than one Cycle is active at a time, the data for the Monthly Cycle will be displayed first,
followed by the Weekly Cycle.
The Categories view of WalletWhiz takes its inspiration from more conventional iPhone
budget applications. To get a good start, please read "Welcome!" to see the specific
functions of each button on the screen. After you're done, you can come back here to
see what else to expect.
Each row in the Categories view corresponds to one Category. The amount displayed in
the row is the Balance for the Category for the active Cycle. You can tap on the
row to view the Transactions for that Category for the active Cycle, or you can tap on
the "blue arrow" (officially called a "Detail Disclosure" button) to view the details
for the Category.
Category names may be edited at any time after creation. Also, there are two ways to
manage a Category: "Clear" and "Delete". When a Category is cleared, all the transactions
for the Category in the effective Cycle will be removed from the application. When a
Category is deleted, all transactions for the Category in ALL Periods will be removed.
WalletWhiz uses Periods to organize the date element of Transactions. When you add a
Period, you're actually creating a group of Cycles. A Cycle is a 1-month or 1-week
interval; the number of Cycles determines the length of the Period. The maximum number
of Cycles for a Period is 12. This is equal to 1 year for Monthly Periods, and roughly
equivalent to 2.5 months for Weekly Periods. Inherently, there can be a maximum of
2 effective Periods for a given date: 1 Monthly, and 1 Weekly.
When a Period is created, all the Cycles in that Period have the same amount for Budget.
However, a Cycle's budget may be edited at any time by tapping the "Period" button in
the Calendar view. In effect, each Cycle in the Period may have a different Budget amount.
After a Period is created, the start and end dates for each Cycle may not be edited.
To delete a Period, use the "Reset" function. This will remove all the Cycles for the
Period, but will not delete the Transactions for the Period. When a new Period is created,
WalletWhiz automatically determines which transactions to include in the new Period.
The most basic element of WalletWhiz is the Transaction. Each Transaction may be classified
as either "Spend Money" or "Earn Money". The components of a Transaction are the amount,
date, Category and description. All of these may be changed even after the Transaction is
created, though all of them are required for a Transaction to be valid. However, a "Spend Money"
Transaction cannot be re-classified as an "Earn Money" Transaction, and vice-versa.
WalletWhiz provides several options to help make your lives easier.
1. Help - Gives access to these help documents.
2. Enable Suggestions - Allows WalletWhiz to suggest text for the description of your transaction based on previously saved transactions.
3. Enable Passcode - Allows you to set a 4-digit Passcode to protect your valuable data
from prying eyes. If Enable Passcode is selected, and the process of setting a Passcode
is interrupted, the passcode will be set to "0000".
4. Change Passcode - Allows you to change your Passcode. However, you would need the old Passcode to change it to a new one.
5. Export Data - Allows you to export the data in WalletWhiz to the universally-accepted
CSV format so you can share it with your favorite desktop spreadsheet or budget application.
6. About - Gives you the names of the whiz kids behind this application.
7. Clear All Data - This will remove all Categories, Expenses and Periods from WalletWhiz.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE DO NOT FORGET YOUR PASSCODE. If you are locked out of the application
because of this, it would be extremely difficult to recover your data.
